South Florida's Weekend Guide

We Know Where the Party Is

The Active Owl is the go-to guide for things to do across South Florida — built by locals, for locals, covering six cities every single weekend.

What We Do

Every week, The Active Owl curates the best events happening across South Florida — live music, happy hours, art walks, food festivals, comedy nights, sports games, brunches, and more. We cover both daytime and nighttime, weekday and weekend, free and ticketed.

Our flagship product is the weekly Duke's Scoops newsletter, delivered every Thursday at 5 PM — right when people start making plans. It's free, concise, and focused: real picks, no filler, no ads disguised as recommendations. Tens of thousands of South Floridians read it every week.

Beyond the newsletter, theactiveowl.com is a live, always-on event discovery platform. You can browse events by city, filter by category (happy hours, live music, brunch, comedy, sports, and more), save events to your personal "My Weekend" planner, and share your lineup with friends. The Happy Hour Passport lets you track every happy hour across all six cities — collect stamps as you go.

The Cities We Cover

We cover six cities in South Florida's Palm Beach and Broward counties:

Boca Raton
Mizner Park, the arts district, and more than enough happy hours to keep you busy all week.
Delray Beach
Atlantic Avenue, the beach, rooftop bars, and one of the most walkable nightlife scenes in Florida.
West Palm Beach
Clematis Street, the waterfront, CityPlace, Kravis Center shows, and spring training baseball.
Fort Lauderdale
Las Olas, the beach strip, world-class dining, and live music seven nights a week.
Boynton Beach
A growing food and arts scene with neighborhood gems that are worth the drive.
Lake Worth Beach
Eclectic arts, independent venues, and a vibrant local community with serious character.

Meet Duke Hooterton

Duke Hooterton is The Active Owl's mascot and fictional editor-in-chief — a well-dressed owl with impeccable taste and strong opinions about where to spend a Saturday night. Duke writes the weekly newsletter intros, picks the featured event each week ("Duke says go to this one"), and generally serves as the personality behind the brand.

Duke wears a tux when it's a special occasion, dons explorer gear when scouting new spots, and is always found with a cocktail during happy hour. He is very much not real. But his event picks are.

Our Team

🦉
Duke Hooterton
Editor-in-Chief (Fictional)
South Florida's most opinionated owl. Writes the newsletter every Thursday. Attends every event (in spirit). Has strong feelings about proper happy hour pricing.

The Active Owl Editorial Team
Event Curators & Writers
A small team of South Florida locals who live in the six cities we cover, attend events weekly, and curate everything you see on the Site and in the newsletter. We check every listing, verify event details, and update the guide constantly. If an event is on The Active Owl, someone on the team has vetted it.

Why We Built This

South Florida has incredible things happening every weekend — but finding them requires scrolling through five different apps, checking venue websites, and reading Facebook event pages that haven't been updated since 2019. We built The Active Owl to fix that. One place, six cities, all the good stuff, every week.

We're independent. We're local. We don't take money to feature events. If it's on the list, it's because we think it's worth your time.

Say Hi
